| New research* suggests that our sweat may help to diagnose whether we have atopic dermatitis or eczema. Scientists in the UK have sampled sweat from a number of individuals and analyzed its content. This research indicates that the amino acid (AA) content of sweat from healthy individuals bears a remarkable similarity to the AA composition of a protein called Profilaggrin. Normal skin contains a variety of amino acids to help create a normal skin barrier and maintain its health. The presence of these AAs is largely due to the work of the Profilaggrin protein. | . |
While further research is needed, these scientists believe that an abnormal AA composition in sweat could indicate that an indivudual is prone to or likely to have an eczematous skin condition.
