A Closer Look at Anxiety & HyperhidrosisWe all feel anxious from time to time, that's just part of living. However some of us feel more anxious than others and this feeling can be overwhelming if it is frequent and severe. A number of symptoms are also associated with anxiety, for example, trembling, respiratory distress, increased heart rate, flushing, etc. Having said this, excessive sweating or hyperhidrosis is a condition that commonly causes anxiety, particularly in social or work related settings. A study* examined 158 individuals that have some form of focal hyperhidrosis in efforts to determine what regions of the body are most commonly affected. The effect of excessive sweating on the degree of anxiety and debilitation with regards to daily living was also examined. The study revealed the following sweating and anxiety 'profiles':
