Focal Hyperhidrosis and the Long TermWhile many may wonder about the long term outcome of focal hyperhidrosis there is very little information on the subject. Some conditions may improve with age. A good example is asthma. But what about excessive sweating conditions? A study* released in December 2016 surveyed almost 2000 US residents reporting an excessive sweating condition. Of these, 73% were women, 27% men, and 7.7% omitted their gender. *Dermatol Surg 2016;42:1347-53

There is a perception that the severity focal hyperhidrosis diminishes with time and the prevalence is relatively lower in the elderly. When asked whether their sweating had lessened as they have gotten older over time 88% of those aged 65+ mentioned their condition had stayed the same or become worse. This is in contrast to only 13% that experienced less sweating than in previous years. |
