Excessive Sweating - HyperhidrosisHyperhidrosis is the medical term that refers to a condition in which individuals produce excessive sweat or perspiration (you could also come across the term 'hyperidrosis' - without the h after hyper). In general, there are two types of profuse sweating conditions. You will also see the term ‘focal hyperhidrosis’ which means excessive sweating from specific areas of the body. For example, the underarms, palms, soles of the feet (also called palmoplantar hyperhidrosis), groin, scalp or face. The cause is unknown and occurs in otherwise healthy people. In contrast, generalized hyperhidrosis involves the entire body and may indicate an underlying cause which needs medical attention. Fortunately there exists very effective topical treatments for those that sweat excessively from specific areas. The Dry Pharmacist offers the DryDerm product line that optimizes treatment based on 1) the severity of the condition and 2) the region in which the problem exists. Having come across many patients with this problem, it became apparent that one particular treatment 'does not fit all’. For more about the cellular aspects behind excessive sweating,

In other words, the severity of a condition as well as the sensitivity of skin can differ from one individual to another. Skin sensitivity can also vary from one region of the body to another. For example, the skin from underarms is significantly different from that of the soles of your feet. That’s why the Dry Pharmacist has formulated a product available in a number of different strengths. In addition, unlike other products, DryDerm is formulated as a gel as opposed to a more irritating alcohol solution.
Almost all patients with underarm and foot involvement are treated successfully with DryDerm. Those affected in the palms do not respond as well but about three quarters will experience a full response or at least a fair degree of improvement. This is based on the Dry Pharmacist’s observations with patients and results demonstrated in a number of well controlled clinical studies. More resistant cases of palmoplantar hyperhidrosis can be treated with an extra-strength formulation, that is, DryDerm PP. |
