Excessive Dry Skin - Xerosis While excessive dry skin (xerosis) can strike anyone, it is especially prevalent in diabetic individuals. In fact, it is estimated that xerosis affects up 75% of older individuals*. As skin dries it becomes scaly, loses elasticity and becomes itchy. It is particularly problematic in the latter population because it can be a chronic long term condition that often leads to cracking and fissuring. Damaged skin in turn can provide a port of entry for infectious organisms. More serious soft tissue infections can result. In the diabetic foot, infections can become very serious.
LactiDerm - Hydrates Dry Skin Like no Other
LactiDerm is especially formulated to treat extra dry, cracking and fissuring skin. We have formulated a superior hydrating cream with three natural butters and urea. These butters are soft, easy to spread and are exceptionally occlusive. That means that, upon application, these butters will trap and prevent water from leaving the skin tissue. *Danby, SG et al. Skin Pharmacol and Physiol. 29(3): 2016

This is the key step in helping restore and repair damaged dry skin. LactiDerm is a triple butter formulation that contains shea, mango, and cupuacu fatty extracts. What's more urea, a well known emollient, is added to our formulation to enhance the moisturizing process. The Added Value of Urea and Lactate Urea and lactate are naturally occuring hydrating agents that help skin tissue to maintain its normal water content. It also has a keratolytic effect that helps to thin out thick dry skin while maintaining skin moisture. Learn more about the butters in LactiDerm
A recent English clinical study* of individuals with xerosis concluded that a emollient cream with urea and lactate 'significantly hydrated the skin to a greater extent, and for a longer period of time, compared to an emollient containing no skin-moisturizing factors, and imparted additional benefits to the structure and function of the skin barrier '.
