A study* published this month challenges the previous prevalence estimates of hyperhidrosis. Several studies have estimated the condition at about 3%. More recently, the prevalence is pegged at 4.8%. This estimate is based on a U.S. study and translates into 15.3 million American individuals. Furthermore, 70% reported their sweating as severe. Surprisingly, about half believe their excessive sweating is not considered a medical condition and that treatment options do not exist. *Arch Dermatol Res, Oct 2016. |
